Whose is it?

だれのですか asks whose something is. The answer drops the noun and stops at の — わたしのです, my one — because the thing is already on the table between you.

の can stand aloneOnce everyone knows what the thing is, の carries it: わたしの = mine. The noun need not be repeated.
